The end of the fuel tank mounting base of some certain models of excavators suffered from weld cracking. The steel plate at the bottom of the fuel tank is cracked, causing the fuel tank to leak. The welding seam of the fuel tank base cracked, causing the steel plate at the bottom of the fuel tank to crack and leak oil, mainly due to the following two reasons. First, there are welding quality problems in the welds of the fuel tank base, and second, the fuel tank base structure is unreasonable. This article will explain how to troubleshoot the unreasonable structure of the fuel tank base.
ANSYS simulation software is used to analyze the stress on the fuel tank base when the excavator is working. The analysis results show that the fuel tank base is only under pressure while the excavator is excavating, and the weld stress is small. When the excavator rotates, the fuel tank base is subjected to a large transverse load, and the welding seam is subject to a large force. In particular, when the fuel tank is filled with fuel and the excavator rotates continuously, the weld between the fuel tank and the base will suffer great lateral impact and tensile stress. The impact force on the fuel tank base is not evenly distributed on the base, but gradually increases from the middle to both ends of the base. The maximum stress is concentrated at both ends of the base, causing stress concentration in the welds at both ends of the base. If the excavator works for a long time, its weld will be cracked.
