How to prevent water ingress of excavator oil

If the water in the engine oil is not treated in time, it is easy to cause the deformation of important components such as engine crankshaft and connecting rod, resulting in engine shaking, and even more serious, the engine will be scrapped. Therefore, preventing water from entering the engine oil is a very important step to protect the excavator engine. This article will explain how to prevent water ingress of excavator oil for reference only.

Before that, learn how to judge the water inflow of engine oil. First, observe the appearance state of the excavator oil, and it is easy to judge whether the oil contains water by color. The oil without water presents a translucent oil bright color, while the oil with water presents an opaque brown or earthy yellow. Secondly, check whether the excavator coolant contains oil. If some parts of the engine are damaged, the engine coolant will enter the lubrication system and mix with the oil. The infiltrated oil will also be found in the coolant of the water tank, which can be easily identified. If water enters the engine oil, it will react with the coolant at high temperature to form emulsion. The dipstick will be found white and foam. If the excavator oil contains a lot of water, the oil level of the oil will rise. At this time, we can simply judge by the level of the oil dipstick.

Then understand how the oil enters the water. First, the damage of cylinder liner seal ring is a common cause of oil water inflow, so when troubleshooting the cause of the fault, we must remember to check whether the cylinder liner seal ring is intact. Second, when the cooling water contacts with the working cylinder liner, it is easy to produce cracks. Once cracks occur, the cooling water will directly enter the cylinder and enter the oil pan through the cylinder wall, which will make the oil white, and the white oil will lead to poor combustion and white smoke of the engine. Generally, the cylinder liner is not easy to crack, but in some cases, for example, the cooling water is not filled with antifreeze in winter, resulting in icing, which may cause the cylinder liner to crack. Third, due to the corrosion of scale, the water is blocked and rusted, and the cooling water will enter the oil passage from the water channel to the oil pan. This reason is very common, so check the water blockage frequently. Fourth, the oil radiator pipeline is damaged, and the water outside the radiator will penetrate into the oil radiator, resulting in water ingress of oil. Fifth, if the cylinder gasket is damaged and the water circulation speed is fast, the water in the water channel will flow into the engine oil passage, causing the engine oil to enter the water. Cylinder gasket damage is also one of the common causes of oil water inflow. After each disassembly of the machine, try to use a new cylinder gasket to avoid oil leakage caused by cylinder gasket leakage and engine damage.

Note: when water enters the engine, do not start the engine again. Professional maintenance personnel are required to clean up the accumulated water inside the engine. Next, check the oil radiator, water plug, cylinder liner sealing ring, cylinder liner and cylinder gasket to determine the cause of oil water inflow.
