Overview
Wheeled excavators are just as powerful and productive as tracked excavators. One of the drawbacks of a wheeled excavator is that some digging depth is lost because of the height difference due to the wheels. When the stabilizers are used, though, they often better lifting power than tracked machines do. Because most of the wheeled machines have a retractable two-part boom, the lifting capacity can be increased further by shortening the boom.
Strength
We've already talked about how the long-term costs for a wheeled excavator are less than those for a tracked model. There are other benefits, too. They can travel at a high enough speed that a lowboy isn’t needed for short distances. This makes a wheeled excavator quite a bit more convenient and reduces the need for a lowboy and CDL. Also, the wheels will not cause the damage to asphalt that tracks do.
One of the main advantages of mini excavators is their functionality with multiple implements and attachments. The Xinyuan mini excavators are compatible with many attachments such as buckets and hammers. You are expected to exchange attachments frequently to facilitate the transition between applications.
Tips for maintaining
As the busy season approaches, it is important that you and your operators maintain a productive fleet of tracked heavy equipment, particularly wheeled excavators, to ensure you stay on schedule. The most effective way to do this is by training your equipment operators on the proper operation and maintenance of the excavator undercarriage and its components as outlined in the manufacturer’s operation and maintenance manual.
a. Follow Basic Practices
-
Make wider turns
-
Minimize time on slopes
-
Avoid harsh environments
-
Reduce unnecessary spinning
b. Keep it Clean
Maintaining a clean undercarriage is critical to efficient operation. At the end of each day, excavator operators should clean out dirt and other debris that may lead to undercarriage buildup.
c. Complete a Full Inspection
-
Drive motor
-
Drive sprockets
-
Main idlers
-
Rock guards
-
Rollers
-
Track bolts
-
Track chains
-
Track shoes
-
Track tension
d. Partner with Your Dealership
Unplanned maintenance can result in a loss of production, higher costs for parts and increased service time, so work with equipment operators to create a planned maintenance schedule.
