The Idlers (The Idler Assembly)
As you can see from the picture below, the idlers, allso known as idler assy in an excavator, are quite significant in the yndercarriage parts. Even they are not as famous as track rollers, they still play an unavoidable role in a crawler system, a excavator as well.
There is only one idler in each crawler system of an excavator. It is impossible to aviod undercarriage wear, even using the optimum design and top qualities. However, a proper understanding of the cause of wear, together with the methodical checks and correct maintenance practices, can help minimise the effects and increase working life of the undercarriage.
