Thermostat is an automatic temperature regulating device. It usually contains temperature sensing components, which open and close the flow of air, gas or liquid by thermal expansion or cold contraction. It is a valve that controls the coolant flow path. This article will summarize two installation methods of thermostat. As different brands of excavators have different requirements, this article is for reference only.
1. Generally, the excavator thermostat is installed at the water outlet on the upper part of the engine. On the one hand, the advantage of this installation is that it is easy to maintain. On the other hand, it is easy to exhaust air when changing the coolant, avoiding the erosion of air on the water pump. However, the thermostat installed at the water outlet of the upper part of the engine also has some disadvantages. That is, the engine is prone to thermostat oscillation during warm-up, resulting in frequent fluctuations in engine temperature, making the engine fuel atomization good and bad. Thus, the fuel consumption is increased, and in the long run, the wear of the engine will be accelerated. Cause certain damage to engine performance.
2. Another installation method of excavator thermostat is to install it at the water inlet of the water pump, which is the junction of cold and hot water. It is a place where the temperature is sensitive, and the thermostat has a small adjustment range for water volume at this position. The regulation accuracy is high, and it will not cause large fluctuations in the water temperature in the engine cylinder, so as to ensure the stable operation of the engine. But the thermostat installed at the water inlet of the water pump also has disadvantages. That is, it is not easy to exhaust air when changing the coolant, which is easy to cause air erosion to the water pump. In particular, when the thermostat installed at the water inlet of the water pump is damaged, it must be replaced in time, and the thermostat must not be removed. If the thermostat is removed directly, it is easy to overheat the engine, causing damage to the engine or even burning.
